Frequently Asked Questions

What is this system?

This is a system for submitting presentation proposals for the annual meeting of the Society for Judgment and Decision Making. Users can submit the details of their proposed presentation to the system. The proposal will be reviewed by a panel of experts in the area, and you will be notified by e-mail whether your submission has been accepted.

When are submissions due?

Submissions are due by June 21, 2008. You can read the Call for Submissions here.

How do I submit a paper?

To submit a paper to the anuual SJDM conference, go to this URL (http://sql.sjdm.org/index.html). Once there, you will need to fill out your name (you are assumed to be the corresponding author) and affiliation, the names and affiliations of other authors for the talk, and designate the person who will present the talk. Then, we will ask you to verify your address information, and then enter the details of your presentation (e.g., title, abstract). You will be asked to verify the information regarding your submission, prior to completing the process. Finally, you will be given a confirmation number which you should record. This number and a password you choose during submission will allow you to access the information about your submission at later points in time. You can cut and paste this information from most word processing software. If you do not receive a confirmation number, you have not completed the submission process!

Do I need to be a society member to submit a paper?

You do not need to be a member of the society to submit a paper for the annual meeting. However, it is required that one author listed on each paper be a society member at the time of submission. We encourage all authors to become society members, as membership dues and conference fees are crucial to the financial stability of the society. To learn about SJDM membership and download the membership application form, go to http://www.sjdm.org/jdm-member.html.

What kinds of paper can I submit?

The annual conference includes three types of submissions:
Individual Papers require an abstract of approximately 100 words, a longer (one-page, 600 words max) abstract for review, and, if accepted, will be grouped with other individual papers on similar topics.
Symposia are collections of papers on a particular topic or theme submitted as a group. Symposia require an abstract of 100 to 200 words, along with a title, author list, and brief abstract for the individual papers within the symposium. Please have all of this information available at the time you submit the symposium.
Posters recuire an abstract of no more than 100 words. Posters will be presented in one of the scheduled poster sessions at the conference.

How are abstracts evaluated?

We have always had a rule that no more than one abstract for a given presenter will be accepted each year. The rule is intended to encourage diversity in presenters. This year, as in previous years, each abstract will be rated by multiple reviewers. Ratings for each reviewer will be standardized, and these standardized scores will be averaged for each abstract. For presenters who submitted more than one talk, only the highest rated abstract for a given presenter will be included in the final pool for consideration. In addition, we will give preference to presenters who have not presented in the previous year, by increasing their ratings by a small fixed amount. We will then fill the program with the highest-rated presentations, starting from the top and ending when the program is full.

How do I receive notification about my submission?

Your submission will be reviewed by a panel of experts in the area. You will be notified by email whether your submission has been accepted. If you have questions regarding the status of your submission, send email to Alan Schwartz.
